Balanced Attack Propels Women’s Lacrosse to Kahoe’s 100th Career Win in 15-7 Victory over George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nine different players found the back of the net as the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team registered a 15-7 win over George Washington in Atlantic 10 action on Wednesday afternoon. Saint Joseph's Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Alex Kahoe notched her 100th career win at the helm of the Crimson and Gray.

The Hawks improved to 3-6 (2-0 Atlantic 10) on the year, George Washington falling to 5-3 (0-2 Atlantic 10).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • George Washington tallied the opening goal of the game under four minutes into the game before the Hawk defense would shut the Revolutionaries out for the next 21 minutes.
  • St. Joe's closed out the first quarter with goals from Emma Yoder, Alexa Capozzoli and Ellie Webb to take a 3-1 lead into the second frame.
  • On the other end of the break, three more goals capped off a 6-0 run from the Hawks as Kate Fuhrman, Elizabeth McGurk and Riley Miller each found the netting to build the advantage.
  • The hosts added a goal in the closing seconds of the first half to cut the SJU lead to 6-3 at the halftime whistle.
  • Fuhrman opened the second half with a goal in 90 seconds to start a 3-0 spurt from the visitors. Four minutes later, Maddie Yoder found her first of the day to become the seventh different Hawk to score the opening eight goals before Capozzoli became the first Hawk to earn multiple scores on the day to put the Hawks up 9-3.
  • Another 3-0 run countered a GW strike, Maddie Yoder earning her second and third of the day before Capozzoli joined with a hat trick of her own to push the advantage to 12-4.
  • George Washington closed the third quarter with the final goal, but the Hawks struck early with just 30 seconds elapsing in the final frame to re-establish the eight-goal advantage after Capozzoli registered her third assist of the game to find Sarah Groark for the finish.
  • Lauren Iorio became the ninth goal scorer of the afternoon with her fifth goal of the season before Capozzoli finished off her productive day with her fourth of the game to push the lead to 15-6.
  • GW scored a consolation goal in the closing minutes of the game as St. Joe's earned its second-consecutive win to open conference play, 15-7.
