PHILADELPHIA – A frenzy of goals from the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team helped set a program record for largest margin of victory over a Division I opponent, defeating La Salle in a 23-3 rout on Saturday afternoon inside of McCarthy Stadium.
12 different goalscorers, including a career-high eight goals from
Maddie Yoder, helped pace the Hawks to their fourth-consecutive victory to open Atlantic 10 play. St. Joe's is now 5-6 (4-0 Atlantic 10) on the year, while La Salle falls to 1-9 (0-4 Atlantic 10) on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kate Fuhrman opened the scoring within the first two minutes of the contest after a feed from Sarah Groark found the junior wide open to register her 100th career point.
- A goal from Ellie Webb combined with two quick strikes from Megan Sanelli gave the Hawks a quick 4-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game.
- Webb responded immediately to a La Salle strike to regain a four-goal advantage before Maddie Yoder struck the back of the net for the first of eight times after Olivia McCloskey forced a turnover off the clear and quickly converted it to the senior for an assist to give St. Joe's a 6-1 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
- Yoder needed just 1:07 in the second frame to complete her hat trick, striking twice in quick succession before the Explorers tallied a response.
- Sanelli added a hat trick of her own to respond to La Salle before Fuhrman scored a minute later to push the advantage to 10-2.
- Three goals in the last 2:52 of the half, including one as time expired, from Yoder extended the lead to 13-2 at the half.
- Yoder picked up right where she left off, scoring within the first 45 seconds of the third quarter. Emma Yoder joined her sister on the score sheet before Maddie tallied her eighth goal of the afternoon. Riley Miller capped off the scoring in the third quarter with a strike from her free-position attempt to help the Hawks earn a 17-2 lead with 15 minutes to play.
- Maggie Davidson scored 40 seconds into the fourth quarter for her first goal of the season. Elizabeth McGurk fed Kate Tomick for her first goal since 2023 before finding the back of the net on her own for the 20th goal of the afternoon.
- La Salle registered a third goal with 6:37 to play, but Lauren Iorio responded in 27 seconds to counter the Explorers.
- Goals from Maggie Davidson and Emily Smith in the final five minutes rounded out the scoring to give the Hawks a 23-3 win to move the win streak to four games.
