Baseball Falls at Rider, 7-3

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team tallied some late runs on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks fell to Rider, 7-3, at Sonny Pittaro Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The hosts jumped in front in the bottom of the first as an RBI double by Joe Tiroly, a groundout by Kyle Neri, and a wild pitch plated three runs.

• Rider (5-3) extended the lead in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Griffin Puvel.

• That's where things remained until the bottom of the seventh, when Peter Crespo hit a solo home run to make it a 5-0 game.

• Saint Joseph's (3-8) got on the board in the top of the eighth as Blake Primrose singled and Michael Pierson walked; Jack Saker followed with an RBI single to score Primrose and make it a 5-1 game.

• The Broncs would get the run back and then another on a pair of errors in the bottom of the eighth; Owen Petrich would go on to draw a two-out walk in the top of the ninth before Sam Meyer followed with a two-run home run, but that would be it for the scoring on the day.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Kyle Batt threw five no-hit innings for the Broncs, walking one and striking out five, to earn the win.  Matt Fitzgibbon was charged with four runs on two hits and two walks in two innings to take the loss.

• Petrich's single in the top of the seventh broke up a combined no-hit bid for Batt and Gavin Hawkes; Saint Joseph's would ultimately end up outhitting Rider, 4-3, on the day.

• Saker's RBI single have him the first run batted in of his collegiate career.
