#19 Men’s Lacrosse Routs St. Bonaventure, 15-3

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Crimson and Gray dominated end-to-end as the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team returned to winning ways with a 15-3 victory over St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Field Complex.

St. Joe's moved to 8-3 on the season, improving to 1-1 in the Atlantic 10 campaign. The Bonnies fall to 5-8 on the year with an 0-2 conference record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Collin Campbell scored the opening goal just three minutes into the contest, sending his attempt through the legs of the Bonnies goalkeeper to put the Hawks on the board.
  • Ben Dutton returned to the scoring column after his first game without a goal last Saturday, rattling the cage from distance after a feed from Trae Ika helped double the advantage.
  • Mark Watters found his 20th goal of the season with just over two minutes to play before Conor Trant won his fourth-consecutive faceoff to give the Hawks the possession.
  • Campbell capitalized with his second goal of the frame, a near image of his first as Carter Truesdell assisted the Rising Sun, Md. native for the second time to push St. Joe's to a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Both teams exchanged seven turnovers through the second quarter, Dutton's man-up goal four minutes in proving to be the lone strike of the stanza as St. Joe's took a 5-0 lead into the half.
  • After St. Bonaventure evaded the 10-man ride for the Hawks with a launched effort from its own half to open the scoring for the hosts, Richie LaCalandra responded a minute later to start a quick 3-0 run.
  • Goals from Braedon Chayes and Trae Ika increased the lead to 8-1 before the Bonnies added their second of the day.
  • Another immediate response ensued as Gaalaas was left with acres of space as the long-stick midfielder pulled and fired for his first goal of the season.
  • Goals from Ika and Dutton in the final 20 seconds of the quarter gave the Hawks an 11-2 lead headed into the final 15 minutes.
  • Campbell completed his hat trick to open the fourth quarter scoring, Dutton following with his fourth and fifth goal of the contest as the Hawks took a 14-2 with 8:24 to play.
  • Maliik Wood capped off the scoring in the final two minutes, netting his second goal of the year to give St. Joe's a 15-3 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Ben Dutton finished one goal shy of matching his program record by a freshman of six goals set in the win over Providence, netting his five goals on eight attempts on goal.
  • Collin Campbell registered his first multi-goal game with a hat trick, adding an assist for a four-point tally.
  • Trae Ika scored a pair of goals and tallied a pair of assists to match a career-high of four points against the Bonnies.
  • Carter Truesdell doubled his season total with a career-high three assists in the win.
  • After an assist with four caused turnovers and five ground balls against UMass, Danny Gaalaas followed up his performance with a goal and an assist to add to a caused turnover and four ground balls. The goal was his first of the season and just his second of his career.
  • Rookie tandem Braedon Chayes (1G, 1A) and Maliik Wood (1G) each found the net in the win.
  • Conor Trant finished 13-17 in faceoffs and registered five ground balls. The .765-win percentage is a career-high for the junior.
  • Tommy Gross produced another dominant display in the cage, allowing just three goals and making 12 saves for a .800 save percentage.
  • The Hawks outshot the Bonnies by a 51-28 margin, forcing the pair of St. Bonaventure shot stoppers into 18 combined saves.
  • SJU finished 3-4 on extra-man opportunities, holding SBU scoreless with an 0-5 mark.
  • St. Joe's held St. Bonaventure to just 10-15 in clearing opportunities, besting a percentage (.731) that entered third-lowest in the country prior to this weekend.
  • The three goals allowed marks the second time this season that the Hawks held an opponent to three goals and matches the lowest output by an opponent in the Coach Wray era.
