#9 Field Hockey Blanks New Hampshire, 2-0

DURHAM, N.H. – Goals in the first and fourth quarters and a strong defensive performance led the ninth-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team past New Hampshire, 2-0, at Memorial Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (2-0) got on the board on a penalty corner six minutes into the game as Emily Tammaro inserted directly to Adèle Jardemar, whose shot was tipped home Ava Smith for a 1-0 lead.

• Neither team found the cage in the second, thanks in large part to Paige Kieft keeping New Hampshire (0-2) scoreless with three saves on a sequence late in the frame.

• UNH had the better of the chances in the third, but could not turn four corner opportunities into a goal.  Then, it was the Wildcats' Abby Johnson's turn to impress in the cage as she stifled three consecutive attempts off the stick of Smith to deny her a second on the day.

• Emily Tammaro doubled the lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, also on an assist by Jardemar, and the Hawks were able to see out the win from there.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Kieft made six saves in her first shutout as a Hawk, while Johnson made six stops for the Wildcats.

• The Hawks held a 10-9 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 edge in the fourth quarter.  New Hampshire earned six corners on the day to five for Saint Joseph's.

HAWK TALK
"To go back-to-back with two victories on the road on opening weekend shows this team means business," head coach Hannah Prince said.  "It was a less-than-24-hour turnaround for the Hawks from game to game, and they showed up today with great energy and eagerness to make things happen. I 'm very proud of the connections I saw build from game one to game two."
