#15 Field Hockey Smothers Saint Louis, 3-0, in Conference Opener

MERION STATION, Pa. – The 15th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team turned in a dominant performance on Friday as the Hawks smothered Saint Louis, 3-0, in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (4-2 overall, 1-0 Atlantic 10) controlled the game from the jump but did not find the back of the cage until two minutes remained in the first quarter.  On a penalty corner, Brooke James sent a pass across to Adèle Jardemar, who tucked a shot into the bottom right corner for a 1-0 lead.

• Shortly after halftime, Ava Smith doubled the lead after cutting into the circle from the right and sending a diving finish into the cage.

• Saint Louis (3-2 overall, 0-1 Atlantic 10) recorded its first corner and first shot of the day in the fourth quarter, but Talya Harvey finished things off for the Hawks after picking up a rebound of a blocked shot and converting for a 3-0 lead.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• The Hawks outshot the Billikens 41-1 on Friday, including a 17-1 edge in the fourth quarter.  SJU held a 21-0 advantage in shots on goal, but Saint Louis goalkeeper Abby Schalow made 18 saves, tied for fourth-most in a game this season in Division I.

• Saint Joseph's held a 22-1 advantage in penalty corners on the day as well; the 22 corners are the second-most in a game in Division I this season.

• The goals by Jardemar and Harvey marked their first collegiate tallies.

HAWK TALK
"We are proud of the outcomes we earned in the circle today," head coach Hannah Prince said. "Of course we would have loved to put the ball in the back of the net a few more times, but our desire to shoot the ball on cage was excellent.  We will continue to learn from each game and be ready to go for Sunday's tough matchup!"
