WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team opened its spring schedule on Saturday with a neutral-site match against Elon, falling to the Phoenix by a 6-1 score.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Davi Carlos and Jakob Gaudreau Barnes took their doubles match in the third flight, but Elon took victories in the top two flights to secure the doubles point.
 
• The Phoenix claimed the first three singles matches to finish and earned the overall victory.
 
• Ernesto Ruy secured a point for the Hawks in the fourth flight, rallying from a set down to win his match in a supertiebreaker.

HAWK TALK
"Today we battled a perennial top-50 Elon program," head coach Jeff Puhan said.  "We battled them to the end and came up short in a few three-setters.  We were not at full strength, which is even more optimistic.  If we clean up some details, the future is bright.  Credit Elon on those big moments; now, we turn our attention to defending national champions Wake Forest."
