HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 54-47 with 8:02 remaining, SJU began its comeback. After a free throw by Simpson, Glover-Toscano took over, scoring eight St. Joe's points in a row, the last of them coming on a driving layup, tying the game at 56-56.
- St. Bonaventure forged back in front and went on top 64-60 with 2:35 to play. Once more the Hawks rallied. A Haskins triple cut the lead to a point. After an empty set for both teams, SJU got a defensive stop. Moving quickly in transition, Glover-Toscano drove to the basket and was fouled. His layup bounced tantalizingly on the rim before finally dropping through the hoop for a 65-64 lead.
- The task was not finished though, as the Bonnies came down the floor and got a seemingly open look in the corner for a three, but Glover-Toscano closed on the shot and blocked it out of bounds with 19 seconds remaining. SBU missed its final field goal attempt and Simpson sealed the contest with two at the charity stripe.
- Saint Joseph's got off to a blistering start, connecting on 10 of its first 14 shots while building a 22-13 lead at the 10:51 mark. Haskins was a big part of the stretch with seven points and two assists.
- The Bonnies cut the lead to 25-21 with 5:29 remaining and were single-handedly kept in the game by Frank Mitchell, who scored more than 60 percent of the team's points in the half.
- SJU recovered and was able to score five in a row late in the frame before taking a 35-28 lead into the locker room.
- St. Joe's scored six of the first eight points to open the second half, going up 41-30 less than three minutes in. St. Bonaventure fought back with a 13-1 run, taking its first lead of the night with 12:51 remaining.
- Coming out of a timeout, the Hawks went back on top thanks to a three-pointer from Anthony Finkley and a driving, off-balance layup from Williford. SBU responded with an 11-0 run.
