PHILADELPHIA - Derek Simpson of the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team has been named both the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week as announced by the respective organizations on Monday afternoon. It is the second time Simpson is earning the A-10 award and his first Big 5 honor.

Simpson shined again this week in a pair of games for the Hawks, averaging 23.5 points and 6.5 assists per game while also connecting on better than 55 percent from the floor. On Monday against VCU, he delivered a career-high 27 points, going 10-for-16 from the field overall, including 5-for-7 from the line, adding four assists and a steal. In a win against Dayton on Saturday, he poured in 20 points and dished nine assists. Overall for the week, he shot 15-for-27 (55.6 percent) from the floor, 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) from three-point range and was 9-for-10 at the free throw line.

The Hawks have a pair of nationally televised games this week. First, they travel to Loyola Chicago for a 9:00 p.m. EST tipoff on CBS Sports Network on Tuesday, January 27. That is followed by a Saturday, January 31 game at city rival La Salle. Tipoff against the Explorers is scheduled for 2:30 with the game iring on USA.
