PHILADELPHIA – A late equalizer for the hosts forced overtime as the Saint Joseph's field hockey team would eventually go on to fall to Penn in a shootout, 3-2, in rainy conditions at Ellen Vagelos Field on Sunday afternoon.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams had chances in the first quarter but it was Saint Joseph's (5-8) that got the opening goal as
Milou Kluyt fed Adèle Jardemar on a corner for her fifth goal of the season.
Â
• After a scoreless second quarter, the Quakers drew level shortly after halftime on a goal by Victoria Manzur.
Â
•Â
Alex Enslin looked to have restored the lead for the Hawks, but the goal was chalked off on referral for an infraction. Shortly after that, however, Kluyt would score on a corner to put the Hawks back on top in the closing minutes of the third quarter.
Â
• Penn (3-8) got the equalizer with less than three minutes to go on a penalty corner conversion by Maxi Aranowitz.
Â
• After a scoreless overtime period, the Quakers would convert all four shootout opportunities while holding the Hawks to one to secure the win.
Â
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Both offenses peppered the cage throughout the game, with the Hawks holding a 20-15 advantage in shots and an 11-10 edge in penalty corners.
Â
•Â
Avianna Wagner made nine saves for the Hawks, while Ruby DeFrees had 10 for the Quakers.
