PHILADELPHIA – Through a driving rain, the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals as the Hawks downed the Fordham Rams 2-0 in a key Atlantic 10 Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an early surge from Fordham, the first half was played primarily in the midfield on the slick turf. Each team was able to generate just one shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes.
- Early in the second half, the Hawks generated a chance as Sarah Fisher dribbled the ball from her own side of midfield to just outside the box, where she was taken down. A yellow card was the initial call, but after a challenge, VAR determined the card to upgraded to a red card, forcing the Rams to play with 10 players the rest of the match.
- St. Joe's broke through in the 66th minute. Muro sent a ball down the right side for Olivia Benzing, who touched it into the middle for Fisher. The junior took one dribble and buried it lower right for the 1-0 SJU lead.
- Saint Joseph's put the game away in the 84th minute. Fisher sent the ball in on a corner. Ashley Rhodes waited on the far post and headed the ball into the net for a 2-0 lead.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The goal was Fisher's seventh of the season, tying her for second in the A10. It was her second consecutive game with a goal and her third in the last four contests.
- Adding her assist, Fisher has 17 points on the season, also second in the conference.
- The goal was Rhodes first since August 22, 2024 when she scored against Lafayette.
- Lauren Lebo made four saves for her fourth clean sheet of the season.
