Late Goal Lifts Saint Louis Past Men’s Soccer, 1-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team battled Saint Louis through a scoreless opening 79 minutes before the Billikens found the breakthrough, handing the Hawks a 1-0 defeat Saturday evening at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Saint Louis registered the first chance of the game as Alex Smith was forced to register his first save in the fourth minute after a one-on-one breakaway from the Billikens.
  • Half chances were mustered by either team over the next forty minutes, before Smith again was able to make a crucial save to deny a Saint Louis attacker on the stroke of halftime to keep it level at 0-0 at the break.
  • Saint Louis finally broke through in the 80th minute when Tanner Anderson headed a Nick Schramm assist past Smith to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
  • The Hawks were unable to find an equalizer in the final 10 minutes as Saint Louis held on for the victory.
