MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team locked up its ninth Atlantic 10 regular season championship and its eighth in 11 seasons with a 7-0 shutout of La Salle at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday afternoon.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (9-9 overall, 6-0 Atlantic 10) got on the board early as
Erika Culp tallied her first of the day on an assist from
Cat Arentz.
Â
• Adèle Jardemar then doubled the lead on a penalty corner feed from
Alison Buffington and
Tristan Groff to put the Hawks ahead 2-0 after one.
Â
• Culp struck again just 32 seconds into the second quarter after picking up a rebound to send the Crimson and Gray into the break with a three-goal advantage.
Â
• Culp then finished off her hat trick early in the third as Arentz sent a long pass to
Kiki Bruning in the circle; Bruning then fed Culp in front of the cage for her third of the day.
Â
• Jardemar and Arentz tallied just 23 seconds apart in the last two minutes of the frame; Jardemar's goal came on another corner opportunity, this time on a pass from
Milou Kluyt, while Arentz was set up in front of the cage by Culp.
Â
•
Talya Harvey closed out the scoring with just under six minutes to go in the fourth, firing home after an incisive pass from
Monica Piccioli.
