Women’s Basketball Meets Loyola Chicago in Pivotal A-10 Clash

CHICAGO – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team travels to the Windy City for a pivotal Atlantic 10 showdown at Loyola Chicago on Saturday evening.

OPENING TIP
The Hawks returned to the win column with a 70-63 victory over George Washington in front of 1,500 fans on School Day, snapping a two-game skid. Rhian Stokes went 10-for-14 from the free throw line to lead Saint Joseph's with 16 points, while Gabby Casey and Aleah Snead each added 15 points. The duo combined for 11 rebounds and nine assists.
 
Saint Joseph's continues to be one of the nation's most efficient passing teams. The Hawks rank second nationally in assist rate (71.1 percent), trailing only Northwestern (72.0 percent). Saint Joseph's is one of just three teams in the country above the 70 percent mark.
 
Over her last six games, Casey has elevated her play, averaging 20.5 points per game while shooting 59.5 percent from the field and 53.1 percent from three-point range. She has also contributed 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game during that stretch, earning two Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors.
 
Among Atlantic 10 leaders, Casey ranks:
Third in scoring (16.7 ppg)
Sixth in rebounding (7.0 rpg)
Sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.28)
Seventh in assists (3.2 apg)
 
The Hawks have been especially strong when playing from ahead, posting a 12-0 record when leading at halftime and a 15-0 mark when holding a lead with five minutes remaining.
 
 
SHARING IS CARING
Through 24 games, the Hawks have assisted on 415 of their 584 made field goals, maintaining a 71.1 percent assist rate – the second-best mark in the nation.
 
Over the past three seasons, Saint Joseph's has consistently ranked among the Atlantic 10's best in assist-to-turnover ratio, finishing in the national top 30 twice during that span.
 
This season, the Hawks rank near the national top 30 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.24) and lead the Atlantic 10 in assists per game (17.3).
 
 
CASEY STEPPING UP
Gabby Casey has been a do-it-all presence for the Hawks in 2025-26, leading the team in points, rebounds and steals per game. She has scored in double figures in 22 of her 24 appearances, recorded at least five rebounds in 21 games, and tallied three or more steals eight times.
 
Casey has led the team in rebounding 13 times, scoring 12 times, steals 11 times and assists 10 times this season. She also owns five games with a team-best plus/minus.
 
Through 23 games, Casey is just two assists shy of matching her career high set during the 2024-25 season, which came over 34 games. She has already surpassed her previous single-season bests in points, rebounds and steals.

Saint Joseph's is competing in its 53rd season of women's basketball and the 25th under head coach Cindy Griffin. The Hawks are 30 wins shy of reaching 1,000 victories in program history.
 
Griffin recently surpassed Stephanie Gaitley for sole possession of second place on the Atlantic 10's all-time wins list with 222 career conference victories. Joe McKeown leads the league with 240 wins.
 
 
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday marks the fifth all-time meeting between Saint Joseph's and Loyola Chicago. The Hawks hold a 4-0 advantage in the series. Three of the four matchups have come since Loyola joined the Atlantic 10 in 2023-24. The programs previously met during the 1993-94 season.
