PITTSBURGH – The Saint Joseph's men's basketball team saw its Atlantic 10 Championship run come to an end, falling 77-64 in the semifinals to VCU on Saturday afternoon.
BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Joe's got off to a slow start from the floor, opening 3-for-14 from the field as the Rams built a 19-6 lead eight minutes in.
- The struggles continued as the half went on with the Hawks connecting on just 9-of-34 shots in the opening 20 minutes with VCU holding a 44-21 lead at the break.
- Saint Joseph's began to find its rhythm to start the second half, connecting on 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, cutting the lead to 48-32 in just five minutes.
- Each time the Hawks threatened, however, VCU was able to counter. Late in the contest, thanks to some impressive shooting from deep by Williford, St. Joe's was able to slice the lead to 15, but the Rams didn't let SJU get any closer until the closing seconds.
