GENEVA, N.Y. – The No. 18 Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team led wire-to-wire in a dominant 17-7 victory over Hobart on Saturday afternoon, remaining unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play.
Saint Joseph's (5-2, 2-0 A-10) wasted no time taking control, scoring four goals in the opening five minutes as four different Hawks found the net to build a 4-0 lead. Hobart broke through midway through the first quarter, but the Hawks carried the early momentum into the second.
After nearly nine minutes without a goal,
Colby Wood opened the second quarter just seconds in, sparking another run.
Jack Fiordalis followed with a coast-to-coast finish to extend the lead to 6-1 before Hobart answered.
Ben Dutton closed the half with two goals to complete his hat trick, sending Saint Joseph's into the break with an 8-3 advantage.
Wood again opened the scoring in the third quarter, marking his third goal to start a period, and
Aidan Kreydt followed less than a minute later to push the lead to 10-3. Hobart briefly halted the run, but the Hawks responded with a decisive 4-0 burst over the final 5:39 of the quarter.
Griffin Mallory scored twice in the span to help the Hawks take a commanding 15-5 lead into the fourth.
Hobart added a pair of goals in the final frame, but Saint Joseph's finished strong with late tallies from
Collin Campbell and
Joey Papa to seal the 17-7 win.
