PHILADELPHIA. – The No. 16 Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team had three chances in the final minute to tie the game but came up short in a 16-15 loss to High Point on Saturday at Sweeney Field. It marked the Hawks' first Atlantic 10 defeat of the season.

High Point (4-5, 3-0 A-10) opened the scoring with the first two goals after a more than five-minute drought to start the game. Saint Joseph's (5-3, 2-1 A-10) answered with a brace from Ben Dutton, then scored twice on extra-man opportunities in a 3-0 run to take a 5-4 lead into the second quarter.

The Panthers responded with seven of the first eight goals after the break, including a 5-0 run that gave High Point an 11-6 advantage with 6:48 remaining in the half. Colby Wood ended the run, and a Dutton hat trick helped the Hawks close the half, trailing 11-9 at intermission.

Saint Joseph's battled back in the second half, pulling within one goal multiple times. Wood scored twice in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 13-12, and Dylan Lee's goal late in the period made it a one-goal game heading into the fourth.

High Point extended its lead to 16-14 midway through the final quarter before a behind-the-back strike from Trae Ika brought the Hawks within one with 6:51 remaining. Collin Campbell scored with 2:38 to play to answer a late High Point goal, but three shots in the final 1:02 failed to find the net, and the Panthers escaped with a 16-15 win.
