Baseball Falls in the Ninth at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday as Fordham walked off with a 7-6 win at Houlihan Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (15-11 overall, 8-1 Atlantic 10) started off strong once again, putting a four-spot on the board in the second.  Tim Dickinson walked before Alex Venezia and Carson Applegate with both hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out.  Joey Gale followed with a two-run single to give the Hawks the lead before an RBI single from Alex Kelsey and a sacrifice fly by Blake Primrose made it a 4-0 game.

• The Rams scored their first run of the series in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by Anthony Grabau.

• Fordham (12-14 overall, 5-4 Atlantic 10) went ahead with four in the fourth, but Primrose led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run to tie the game at 5-5.

• The Rams then manufactured another run in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-5 lead.

• The Hawks drew level in the ninth, loading the bases with nobody out on a single by Applegate, a walk to Gale, and an infield single by Kelsey.  Two batters later, Richard Beggy's sacrifice fly scored Applegate with the tying run.

• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, a relay throw on a potential inning-ending double play in the bottom of the ninth got away and allowed the Rams to score the winning run.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Aric Berg blew the save in the ninth for Fordham but claimed the win after allowing a run on two hits in one inning of work; Matt Fitzgibbon allowed one unearned run on two hits in one inning to take the loss.

• Kelsey finished the day with two hits and a walk; Applegate scored two runs while Gale and Primrose each drove in two.

• Hawk pitchers recorded 14 strikeouts in the game while allowing just one walk.

• Grabau's home run in the second inning ended a 28-inning scoreless streak for the Rams.
