MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team earned a 4-1 victory against local rival Villanova on Tuesday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hawks claimed the doubles point with wins in the top two flights.
Ernesto Ruy and
Santiago Valle teamed up for a 6-3 win in the top flight, while
Davi Carlos and
Jakob Gaudreau Barnes clinched the point with a 6-4 win in the second.
• Ruy and Gaudreau Barnes staked the Hawks to a 3-0 lead in singles play. Ruy rolled in the second flight, while Gaudreau Barnes on in straight sets in the fourth.
• The Wildcats took the sixth flight, but Valle outlasted his opponent in a three-setter in the top flight to secure the overall match victory.
