MERION STATION, Pa.Morgan Lester had a breakout game at the plate and Jules Scogna tossed her second complete game of the season as the Saint Joseph's softball team completed a three-game sweep of the Rhode Island Rams, winning 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Morgan Lester hit her first career homerun and also made a diving stop to start a double play that ended the top of the sixth. She also had an RBI triple.
  • Elyssa Hasapis and Riley York each had two hits in the game. York drove in a pair of runs.
  • Grace Brown hit her second homer of the weekend.
  • Jules Scogna tossed her second complete game of the season.
  • St. Joe's kept URI off the scoreboard for the final 16 innings of the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the bottom of the first, the Hawks manufactured a run. Meghan Sinkus reached on a fielder's choice with one out and stole second. She moved to third on a groundout and came in to score on an RBI single from York.
  • Hasapis walked to lead off the third and moved to second on a groundout. Two batters later, York came through again with a triple down the rightfield line, plating Hasapis for a 2-0 SJU lead.
  • St. Joe's added an insurance run in the fifth as Lester connected on her first career homer, clearing the leftfield wall.
  • The Hawks left no doubt in the game in the sixth as following a one out walk, Brown clocked a two-run homer. Jenna Currie doubled in front of Lester who smacked a triple down the rightfield line, scoring pinch-runner Kasi Loser. Lester would then cross the plate on a wild pitch.
  • Meanwhile, Scogna was brilliant, scattering four hits, not walking a batter in the complete game shutout. She induced 11 ground balls in the game.
