MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to George Mason, 9-6, in 10 innings at Smithson Field on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• George Mason (18-17 overall, 10-6 Atlantic 10) got on the board in the top of the first through a triple by Luciano Terilli; the Patriots then doubled their lead on a sacrifice fly by Lucas Alberti in the top of the third.

• The Hawks would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth.Â
Richard Beggy got SJU on the board with a two-out solo home run before
Joey Pagano worked a walk.Â
Jason Janesko followed with a two-run home run to put the Hawks on top, 3-2.

• The Patriots would go back in front in the top of the fifth, scoring twice on a bases-loaded walk to Jake Butler and a fielder's choice by Julius Bagnerise.

• Saint Joseph's (23-13 overall, 14-2 Atlantic 10) answered in the bottom of the frame.Â
Carson Applegate was hit by a pitch to start the inning before being bunted to second base by
Joey Gale.Â
Alex Kelsey then doubled Applegate home to tie the score before moving to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Beggy singled to score Kelsey and put the Hawks back in front.

• Gale extended the lead in the bottom of the seventh, leading off the inning with a solo home run.

• A two-run pinch-hit home run by Laken Tignor in the top of the eighth tied the game for George Mason. The Hawks would mount a threat in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with two outs, but Owen Stewart escaped the jam to send the game to extra innings.

• The visitors went ahead on a three-run home run by Logan Vaughan with two outs in the 10th; the Hawks would bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the inning, but Stewart stranded the runners to end the game.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Stewart allowed a run on five hits in five and a third innings of relief to earn the win; the loss went to
Andrew Gaines, who ceded three runs on two hits in two innings.

• Beggy and Janesko each went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two driven in for the Hawks; Gale and Kelsey collected two hits apiece as well.

UP NEXT
Due to an unfavorable forecast for Sunday, the teams will play a doubleheader at Smithson Field on Saturday. First pitch in the opener is set for 11:00 a.m.
