ORLANDO, Fla. – The second-seeded Saint Joseph's men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship via a 4-1 win over seventh-seeded Fordham at the USTA National Campus on Thursday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hawks claimed the doubles point with wins in the first and third flights.
Damir Abdusamadov and
Santiago Valle made quick work of the first flight, while
Davi Carlos and
Jakob Gaudreau Barnes clinched the point in the third.
• Fordham notched a win in the top singles flight, but the Hawks collected three points to finish off the match.
Othman Bezzaz rolled past his opponent in the fourth flight to put the Hawks back on top before
Sehaj Singh Pawar finished off his fifth-flight match to bring the Hawks to the brink of advancing.
• Gaudreau Barnes sealed the deal for Saint Joseph's in the sixth flight, winning a second-set tiebreaker to clinch both his match and the quarterfinal.
UP NEXT
The Hawks will meet third-seeded Dayton in Friday's semifinals.
