4/30/2026 3:55:00 PM

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's head women's basketball coach Cindy Griffin has been named one of six recipients of the inaugural Dawn Staley Legacy Award, the Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative announced.

The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated strong leadership and made a significant impact on growing the game of basketball within their communities, particularly for women and girls. It was established to highlight the lasting influence of Dawn Staley both on the court and beyond.

Griffin recently completed her 25th season at Saint Joseph's during the 2025-26 campaign. The Hawks posted their fourth consecutive 20-win season, continuing a stretch of sustained success under her leadership. Griffin is the program's all-time winningest coach with 442 victories at Saint Joseph's and owns 490 career wins overall.

The award will be presented at the Philadelphia Sports Legacy Honors on May 20 at the Alan Horwitz "Sixth Man" Center.

Griffin is joined by fellow Big 5 head coaches among the inaugural honorees: Diane Richardson (Temple), Mountain MacGillivray (La Salle), Denise Dillon (Villanova), Mike McLaughlin (Penn) and Amy Mallon (Drexel).
