Softball Pulls Away Late to Down Drexel

PHILADELPHIATaylor Trowbridge struck out the 250th batter of her career and the Saint Joseph's softball team broke open the game in the sixth inning on its way to a 9-1 victory against the Drexel Dragons on Wednesday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • With her second punchout of the day, Trowbridge hit the milestone, becoming the 10th player in program history to achieve the feat.
  • Grace Brown went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Lauren Stalica and Hailey Peterson each drove in two runs.
  • Jenna Wagner earned the win, going three innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one run, striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Scoreless into the third, SJU got on the board on a sac fly from Meghan Sinkus that brought home Morgan Lester, who had singled to open then inning and then stole second.
  • In the fourth, Peterson singled to lead off the frame and then came around to score thanks to a pair of Drexel errors. Tacking on another run in the fifth, Sinkus doubled and came across the plate on ground ball from Peterson to make it 3-0.
  • St. Joe's put the game away in the sixth as Brown doubled and stole third in front of Kasi Loser, who followed with a double of her own. Two batters later, Julia Shearer connected for a two-bagger, scoring Loser to push the lead to 5-0. Walks to Elyssa Hasapis and Sinkus loaded the bases for Stalica. She smacked a single to right, plating Shearer and Hasapis to make it 7-0.
  • The last runs for Saint Joseph's came in on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Jenna Currie.
