WASHINGTON – Three Saint Joseph's men's tennis student-athletes were named to the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis All-Conference First Team, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. Juniors
Othman Bezzaz and
Ernesto Ruy and sophomore
Santiago Valle were named among the league's top players, while Bezzaz was also tabbed for the All-Academic Team.
Bezzaz, who hails from Casablanca, Morocco, tied for the second-most singles wins on the squad with 15 as the Hawks earned the number-two seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship and reached the semifinals. He posted an 8-2 mark in the fourth singles flight while seeing action in each of the top three flights, and also tied for the team lead with 18 doubles wins.
A native of Atizapan de Zaragoza, Mexico, Ruy teamed with Bezzaz to reach a #70 national doubles ranking in the fall as the duo collected 17 wins together; Ruy matched Bezzaz for the team lead with 18 overall doubles victories. On the singles side, his 16 wins led the team, as did his 34 combined wins across both disciplines.
Valle collected 10 wins across the top two singles flights this season on the way to 14 singles wins for the year. The San Luis Potosi, Mexico, product also saw time across each of the top two doubles flights as well and ranked fourth on the team in both singles and doubles victories.
