Fehrman Unfurls a Gem as Baseball Shuts Out St. Bonaventure, 3-0

MERION STATION, Pa. – Cole Fehrman struck out 13 in eight shutout innings on Saturday as the Saint Joseph's baseball team blanked St. Bonaventure, 3-0, at Smithson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• In a pitchers' duel between Fehrman and Tristan Ciampa, it was Ciampa who blinked first in the bottom of the sixth.  Alex Kelsey led off the frame with an infield single before Blake Primrose ripped a shot off the left field fence for an RBI double and a 1-0 Hawk lead.  Two batters later, Joey Pagano hit a sacrifice fly to double the advantage.

• Saint Joseph's (31-15 overall, 21-2 Atlantic 10) added to the lead in the seventh.  Tim Dickinson singled to start the inning before an infield single by Carson Applegate and a walk to Kelsey loaded the bases for Primrose, who was hit by a pitch to force home Dickinson.

• St. Bonaventure (12-30-1 overall, 6-17 Atlantic 10) would not threaten again as Fehrman and Sam Greer combined to retire the final 13 Bonnies hitters of the game.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Fehrman struck out 13, the most by a pitcher in the Atlantic 10 this season, and allowed two hits without a walk in eight shutout innings to improve to 4-3 on the year.  Greer threw a perfect ninth for his second save of the season.  Ciampa took the loss for the Bonnies, allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings.

• Fehrman retired the first nine batters of the game before a leadoff single in the top of the fourth; he did not allow a runner to reach second base.

• Primrose was the only hitter to collect two hits on the day, while Kelsey singled, walked, and was hit by a pitch to reach three times in four plate appearances as well.
