Softball Splits with Dayton to Close Regular Season

DAYTON, Ohio Elyssa Hasapis hit her first career homerun as part of a game one victory as the Saint Joseph's softball team split a doubleheader with the Dayton Flyers, winning 7-1 in the opener and falling 8-0 in the later contest.

With the game one win, the St. Joe's clinched a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship for the third consecutive year.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Hasapis went 4-for-4 in the opener and came up a double shy of the cycle.
  • Alivia Heers had two hits and an RBI on the day.
  • Kasi Loser had a hit in each end of the twinbill.
  • The game one victory was the first for the Hawks against Dayton since April 29, 2023.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE
  • SJU jumped in front right away in the top of the first as Hasapis tripled and came in to score on a wild pitch.
  • In the second, the Hawks posted a pair of unearned runs, pushing the lead to 3-0.
  • Adding on, Saint Joseph's struck again in the third. Hasapis and Loser singled to start the inning. A ground ball from Meghan Sinkus brought home Hasapis, but Loser was out at the plate. Riley York got the inning started again with a double. Heers singled home York, making it 5-0. Haley McMenamin closed the scoring in the frame with a double, plating Heers.
  • One more run came across the board in the fourth as Hasapis hit her first career homerun.
  • Trowbridge picked up her eighth complete game of the season, allowing just one run on two hits, striking out five.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO
  • Both pitchers recorded a scoreless first inning with Jules Scogna retiring the Flyers in order.
  • Dayton got on the board with two in the second and then added on in each of the next four innings.
 
UP NEXT
Saint Joseph's competes in the Atlantic 10 tournament, May 6-9 at the Billiken Sports Complex in St. Louis, Mo. The time and opponent for the Hawks first game will be announced after the completion of the regular season for the conference on Sunday afternoon.
