PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's women's basketball head coach
Cindy Griffin has announced the addition of
Alex Zachem as Assistant Coach/Director of Video and Player Development.
"We are very excited to welcome Alex back to St. Joe's as Assistant Coach/Director of Video and Player Development," Griffin said. "Alex's passion and knowledge of the game is exceptional and we are looking forward to her bringing her championship work ethic and experience back to Hawk Hill. She is a rising star in this business and I can't wait to see her continue to shine."
A Saint Joseph's alumna and former four-year starter and team captain for the women's tennis program, Zachem returns to Hawk Hill after spending the past three seasons with UCLA Women's Basketball, where she played an integral role in the Bruins' return to national prominence.
"I am truly honored and grateful to be welcomed back home to Saint Joseph's University by Coach Griffin and her incredible staff," said Zachem. "Hawk Hill has always been a special place in my life, first as a student-athlete on the tennis team and now as an assistant coach of the women's basketball staff. To have the opportunity to come back to my alma mater and help develop the next generation of Hawks is something I do not take for granted."
"Saint Joseph's is a place built on pride, tradition and community, and I am grateful to be welcomed back. I can't wait to get to work alongside our staff, connect with our players and contribute to the future of this program. As always, The Hawk Will Never Die!"
Zachem arrives on Hawk Hill following a highly successful tenure at UCLA. After serving as a full-time video coordinator intern beginning in June 2023, she was elevated to Video Coordinator ahead of the 2025-26 season. During her three years in Westwood, the Bruins captured the 2026 NCAA National Championship, won the 2026 Big Ten regular-season title, secured back-to-back Big Ten Tournament championships in 2025 and 2026, made two Final Four appearances and advanced to three NCAA Tournaments.
"I want to thank UCLA, Coach Close and the entire staff for an incredible three years and for the opportunity to be part of a championship program," Zachem said. "The relationships I built, the experiences I gained and being a part of a national championship team will always mean a great deal to me."
As Video Coordinator at UCLA, Zachem oversaw all aspects of the program's video operations. Zachem and her team managed game and practice footage, coordinated film exchange and maintained the team's video library. She also provided extensive support in scouting preparation, including opponent analysis, game-plan development, and scout team coaching responsibilities. In addition to her video and scouting duties, Zachem collaborated with the coaching staff on playbook management and player development. She also assisted with on-campus recruiting visits, youth clinics and summer camps.
Prior to her transition into collegiate athletics, Zachem worked in the entertainment industry, holding positions with HBO and NBCUniversal in finance, travel and operations from 2017-23.
Zachem graduated, Magna Cum Laude, from Saint Joseph's in 2017 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in finance.
