DETROIT – Former Saint Joseph's baseball standout Brett Callahan was called up to the Major Leagues on Sunday as the Detroit Tigers promoted him from Triple-A Toledo. Batting seventh and playing left field, he ripped a two-run triple into the right field corner on the first pitch he saw in the second inning to give the Tigers an early lead.
 
Callahan became the fifth Hawk baseball player to appear in a Major League game, following in the footsteps of Fritz Henrich, Jamie Moyer, Jimmy Yacabonis, and Brian O'Keefe.

A native of Newark, Delaware, Callahan was drafted by the Tigers in the 13th round of the 2023 MLB Draft after earning Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors in each of his three seasons on Hawk Hill.  He was a key catalyst at the top of the lineup as the Hawks earned the first Atlantic 10 regular season championship in program history in 2023, when he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association's All-Region Second Team and the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team after hitting .344 with a team-leading 11 home runs.  The only Hawk to play in and start all 53 games that season, Callahan tied the program's single-season record at the time with 61 runs scored; he also led the Atlantic 10 with six triples while driving in 55 runs and stealing 14 bases.
 
A 2022 All-Conference Second Team and 2021 All-Rookie Team honoree, Callahan hit .352 over the course of 139 games in the Crimson and Gray, scoring 143 runs and driving in 109 while collecting 22 home runs and 194 hits to go with a 1.003 career OPS between 2021 and 2023.  He ranks in the program's career top 10s in batting average, home runs, runs scored, triples, and stolen bases.
 
Callahan enjoyed a quick rise through the ranks of the Tigers organization in 2026; after ending last season at high-A Western Michigan, he played in 60 games for Double-A Erie before joining Triple-A Toledo in late June.
