Men’s Soccer’s Eight-Game Unbeaten Streak Comes to an End with 2-1 Defeat to Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Despite scoring the opening goal, the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team conceded twice in a span of seven minutes in the first half as the Hawks suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bucknell Tuesday evening at Emmitt Field.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks opened the scoring in the eighth minute after Mason Csapo intercepted a Bucknell pass in the attacking third. The sophomore quickly played Eddie Krupski through on goal, with the junior slotting his shot past the goalkeeper to give Saint Joseph's an early lead.
  • The advantage lasted just 65 seconds, as Drew Roskos found the back of the net to level the scoring for the hosts.
  • Bucknell took the lead in the 15th minute after capitalizing on a loose ball in the box.
  • Saint Joseph's held an 8-5 advantage in shots in the first half, but neither goalkeeper was tested as the Bison took a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Hawks continued to build momentum in the second half, holding a 12-6 advantage in shots and forcing three saves from Bucknell goalkeeper Thomas Yerbury.
  • Ronan Sullivan came closest to an equalizer in the 86th minute, but his well-struck volley was denied by Yerbury.
  • A late strike from Conor Clair in the closing seconds was unable to find the back of the net as the Hawks suffered their first defeat of the season.

  • Eddie Krupski scored his second goal of the season, while Mason Csapo registered his second assist.
  • Twelve different Hawks recorded a shot as Saint Joseph's finished with a 20-11 advantage in shots. The Hawks also held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Bucknell's second goal marked the first time Saint Joseph's had trailed all season.
  • The defeat snapped an eight-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season, which was the second-longest active unbeaten streak in the country.
  • Alex Smith made five saves in goal.
  • Tommy Regan made his collegiate debut in his first career start, while Carter Courtney also made his first career start.
