KINGSTON, R.I. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team suffered defeat on Tuesday evening, falling in Atlantic 10 action in a 3-0 defat to Rhode Island.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alex Smith was called into action early, making a quick reflex save in the seventh minute to prevent an opener from the Rams.
- Despite pressure from Rhode Island through the first 30 minutes, the Hawks created a pair of chances on the stroke of halftime.
- Rhode Island goalkeeper William Synnestvedt was called into action with saves against Jake Ross and Sebastian Perez-Gasiba.
- Collin Martin finally got the better of Smith after the Hawks' goalkeeper made five first-half saves, cleaning up a rebound following a diving stop to open the scoring.
- Rhode Island doubled its advantage in the 67th minute after being awarded a penalty. Tiago Barriguinha converted from the spot to put the Rams ahead by two.
- A third goal from Rhode Island's Liam Kuemmritz wrapped up the scoring in a 3-0 win for the Rams.
