Women’s Soccer Tops GW to Remain Undefeated in A10 Play

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team built a halftime lead and then hung on though a second half George Washington rally as the Hawks downed the Revolutionaries 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks wasted little time in getting on the board and less than two minutes in, Valentina Nardone worked around multiple defenders and drilled a rocket into the top right corner
  • Less than seven minutes later, SJU was on the attack again. Olivia Benzing made a run down the right side. As she approached the goal line, she centered the ball to wide open Sarah Fisher who redirected the ball into the net for a 2-0 St. Joe's advantage. 
  • Just before the half, Nardone struck again, converting a penalty kick, making it 3-0 heading into the break.
  • In the 60th minute, the Revolutionaries scored and then struck again in the 77th. 

BY THE NUMBERS
  • For Nardone, the goals were her second and third of the season.
  • It was Fisher's fifth tally, putting her fourth in the A10.
  • Despite being outshot overall, the Hawks had a 6-5 edge in attempts on target.

UP NEXT
St. Joe's is off until Saturday, October 3 when it hosts VCU. Kickoff from Sweeney Field is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
