A veteran of both the collegiate and international game, Caroline Nelson-Nichols has joined the Hawks for the spring 2021 campaign.
Nelson-Nichols was most recently the head coach of the United States Women's National Team, a squad for which she played for seven years. She earned 165 caps for the National Team and was a part of the squads that competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Nelson-Nichols also earned gold medals with the United States at the 2011 Pan-American Games and the 2014 Champions Challenge, and helped lead the USWNT to a fourth-place finish at the 2014 World Cup.
Prior to taking the reins of the National Team, Nelson-Nichols spent five seasons as the head coach at Columbia. Before becoming the head coach, she was an assistant with the Lions for three seasons, and also spent a season on the staff at the University of Iowa.
A 2007 graduate of Old Dominion, Nelson-Nichols was an NFHCA First Team All-America selection and the CAA Player and Defender of the Year as a senior. She was also a teammate of Saint Joseph's head coach Lynn Farquhar during their time with the Monarchs, playing under legendary Hall of Fame coach Beth Anders.
