Former Saint Joseph’s standout Ashley Prim ’13 enters her fourth season as an assistant coach at her alma mater in 2025-26, joining Cindy Griffin's staff in July of 2022.

Working primarily with guards, Prim helped guide Mackenzie Smith to three consecutive Atlantic 10 All-Conference selections from 2022-23 through 2024-25, including a First Team honor as a senior. Smith became the 30th Hawk in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, finishing her career with 1,618 points - seventh-most in program history. The Canadian guard also shot better than 40 percent from three-point range in each of her final two seasons.

During Prim’s three seasons on staff, the Hawks have recorded 20 or more wins each year, including a 24-10 finish in 2024-25. Saint Joseph’s set a program record with 28 victories in 2023-24, when guards Smith and Chloe Welch were among four Hawks to average double figures in scoring.

Prim returned to Hawk Hill after spending the previous season as an assistant coach at La Salle. Joining the Explorers in June of 2021, Prim helped La Salle finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 standings in 2021-22 and post its first winning season since 2016-17.

Prior to La Salle, Prim spent two seasons at Sacred Heart, serving as the coordinator of basketball operations for the 2019-20 season, before being promoted to assistant coach in 2020-21. As an assistant coach, Prim was responsible for recruiting, scouting, and guard development, and helped Adrianne Hagood and Nikki Johnson earn All-NEC honors.

A dynamic guard, Prim led the Hawks’ backcourt for four seasons and guided St. Joe’s to four consecutive postseason appearances, including the 2013 Atlantic 10 title and NCAA Tournament berth. Appearing in 123 career games, the Bridgeport, Connecticut, native also earned Big 5 Rookie of the Year and A-10 All-Rookie Team accolades, also was named the 2010-11 A-10 Sixth Player of the Year. A member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and SJU Athletic Director’s Honor Rolls, Prim graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports marketing.

Following her collegiate career, Prim played professionally in Puerto Rico, Bulgaria, Ireland, Mongolia and Dubai. She began her coaching career in 2018-19 as an assistant coach for the Kolbe Cathedral girls’ basketball team, and boys’ volleyball team.
