Alex Brunson was named head strength and conditioning coach for the women’s basketball team prior to the 2023-24 campaign. Brunson joined Hawk Hill after a stint at Bucknell, becoming the first basketball-specific strength and conditioning coach for the Bison in July 2022.
Prior to his time at Bucknell, Brunson has earned experience throughout the east coast with stops at Wagner, Delaware, Clemson and Niagara.
At Bucknell, Brunson served by coordinating the comprehensive strength and conditioning program for the Bucknell men's and women's basketball programs. Brunson tailored a basketball-specific program that emphasized injury prevention, performance enhancement, nutrition, speed and agility, strength training and student-athlete well-being.
Before his stop in Lewisburg, Brunson was hired in 2019 to be the head strength and conditioning coach for Niagara’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. Overhauling the entire program, he installed an elite-level performance culture in the weight room with the design to significantly impact on-court improvement for both teams.
Brunson interned as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the men's and women's basketball teams at Clemson University, spending a year with the Tigers before being invited back in the summer of 2020 as a mentor to a staff of 20 interns in a virtual internship. He also assisted with summer training phases for the baseball, softball, track and field, and women's volleyball programs.
At Wagner, Brunson served as the head strength and conditioning coach for the men's basketball team. In 2017-18, he was part of a Seahawks program that captured the Northeast Conference regular-season title followed by a bid to the NIT.
Brunson is a 2016 graduate of West Chester where he received a bachelor of science degree in exercise science with a minor in nutrition. Brunson also received his master of business administration degree from Wagner in 2018, and earned a second master's degree in elementary and early childhood education from Niagara in 2021.
During his schooling, Brunson interned as a football strength and conditioning coach at the University of Delaware, while joining Wagner College as a graduate assistant while earning his master’s degree.
