Ed LeFurge III was hired as assistant director of athletic communications in August 2021 and will serve as the primary contact for women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, and the cross country/track & field programs on Hawk Hill.
He comes to St. Joe’s after a three-year stint at La Salle where he was the contact for men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s soccer, men's/women's golf, women’s water polo, and softball.
Outside of his day-to-day responsibilities, LeFurge served as the host of Inside The L: The Podcast. The podcast covered all things La Salle Athletics and provided Explorer fans a behind-the-scenes look on a variety of topics.
During the summer of 2021, LeFurge was tasked by the athletic director to create and chair the department’s innovation team, which looked at ways for the athletic department to be more innovative and run smoother. He also chaired the search committee in the hiring process of Kerry Smith as the University’s head men’s and women’s swimming & diving coach.
LeFurge led the working group established to develop the relaunch of GoExplorers.com, which was revealed in September of 2020. The redesigned site features a cleaner, refreshed look with some new features across both web and mobile platforms, including La Salle's new L logo, a fan poll to engage members of the La Salle community, a video platform connected to the department's YouTube channel, and an enhanced student-athlete of the week award section.
Before arriving at La Salle, LeFurge spent the previous 10 months as the assistant director of athletic communications at Arcadia University. During his time in Glenside, he spent three months overseeing all communications efforts for the Knights 19 varsity sports while the department searched for a director of athletic communications. LeFurge also traveled to the MAC Commonwealth Championship and NCAA Regionals with the Knights' baseball team.
While at Arcadia, LeFurge helped the department expand its web-streaming services with the creation of the Arcadia Knights Sports Network, serving as the network's play-by-play voice. During the 2017-18 academic year, the network provided a plethora of webcasts for men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's volleyball.
Aside from his sport responsibilities, LeFurge had a chair on the Arcadia Athletic Hall of Fame and Athletic Award Banquet committees. He also sat on the search committee for the director of athletic communications vacancy during the summer of 2018.
Prior to coming to Arcadia, LeFurge spent five years at Temple University where he served as the primary contact for women's soccer, and secondary contact for football & women's basketball. He also worked in a support role with most of the Owls' 18 varsity sports.
The Brick, N.J. native also served as a play-by-play voice on OwlsTV, the department's live streaming service, for women's basketball, volleyball, and many other sports. He also served as one of the department's staff writers.
During his time working with the Owls' women's basketball program, he traveled with the team on its postseason runs, including the 2017 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament and 2016 WNIT run.
Professionally, he is a member of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and CoSIDA.
In 2017, LeFurge graduated from Temple with his bachelor's degree in journalism. He and his wife, Amy, currently reside in Glenside, Pa.
