Two second-half goals proved to be the difference as the Hawks fell at No. 22 Villanova Friday afternoon at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
Following a scoreless first half, the Wildcats opened the scoring at 66:19 as Regina Villari too a corner kick from teammate Kaley Guthrie and netted it past Saint Joseph's freshman goalkeeper Jen Kuhn.
Villari put Villanova up for good with just under seven minutes to play, heading in a cross pass from teammate Laura Johnson.
The Wildcats controlled much of the first stanza, outshooting the Hawks 10-1. Kuhn kept Saint Joseph's in it though, making five of her 10 saves in the opening period.
For the game, the Villanova outshot the Hawks 19-5 as the Wildcats' Jillian Loyden made one save for the win. Villari and Johnson combined for 11 of Villanova's 19 shots.
Kuhn was the hard-luck loser, making 10 saves in the loss. Sophomore forward Megan Schutt led all Saint Joseph's players with two shots.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-2 on the season, while Villanova improves to 3-0.
Saint Joseph's returns to action next Friday at Big Five rival Villanova. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
