The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team broke a three-game winless streak, downing Drexel 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Vidas Field.
Both teams put up hard fights against both each other and the elements, as the teams ended a wind and rain-filled first half tied 0-0.
The Hawks got on the board in the 66th minute as junior Jess Daugherty beat Drexel's Melissa Stubler on a penalty kick to give SJU a 1-0 lead. Junior Alisha Paine added the Hawks' second goal three minute later, scoring off a pass from sophomore forward Ali Wean.
Paine added her second goal of the game in the 81st minute, converting a pass from Kaiti McCaffery.
Despite scoring three goals, SJU was out shot 15-10. Paine led the way for the Hawks with four, while Sherriann Steadman accounted for five of the Drexels shots.
Hawks' junior goalkeeper Nicole DiEnna made five saves for her first victory and shutout of the season. Stubler made six saves in the loss.
With the win, SJU improves to 2-5-0 on the season, while Drexel falls to 2-4-2.
Saint Joseph's returns to action this Friday as it begins Atlantic 10 Conference play with a game at Temple. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
