The Saint Joseph's University women's soccer team dropped its third consecutive game, falling today to Xavier 1-0 at Finnesey Field.
The game remained tied through much of the contest as the Hawks and Musketeers battled for a scoring chance.
Late in the second half, the Musketeers pressed the ball deep into Saint Joseph's zone, earning three consecutive corner kicks. After two corners were cleared, Xavier's Amber Silvis connected from the right corner, sailing the ball over everyone and into the back of the net to give the Musketeers a 1-0 lead with just over five minutes remaining.
The Musketeers kept pressing and held Saint Joseph's scoreless to earn the victory.
Both teams had chances in the first half, but failed to convert. For the game, Xavier out shot the Hawks 8-4 in the first half and 14-6 for the game.
Hawks' freshman goalkeeper Jen Kuhn (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) was the hard-luck loser, making three saves in net for SJU. Andrea Garber made two saves at the other end for the shutout.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 4-9-0 overall and 2-3-0 in Atlantic 10 play. Xavier improves to 4-9-0 and 3-2-0 in the A-10 with the win.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Friday when it hosts Fordham at 7 p.m.
