Freshmen Lead Women's Soccer To 2-1 Victory At Rutgers

PHILADELPHIA - Behind three first-half goals, La Salle downed Saint Joseph's women's soccer team 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field.

The Explorers got on the board in the 15th minute as Jenna Guagenti headed a corner kick to the far post, beating the Hawks' freshman goalkeeper Jen Kuhn.

La Salle went up 2-0 at 21:48, as Amanda Bills' shot from 15 yards out sailed over the out-stretched hands ok Kuhn and into the net.

Ashley Cassel added the final goal for La Salle, taking a centering pass from Guagenti and beating Kuhn to the far post from two yards out at 34:49.

For the game, the Explorers out shot the Hawks 12-9. Saint Joseph's senior Ginette Buffone accounted for three of the Hawks nine shots.

Kerry Schamberger made five saves in goal for the Explorers to earn the win, while Kuhn made five saves in the loss.

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 5-10-0 overall and 3-4-0 in Atlantic 10 play. La Salle improves to 7-6-2 overall and 3-4-0 in conference play with the win.

The Hawks return to action Friday, October 22 at St. Bonaventure. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
