PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (07/26/03)- Renee Hykel, a 2001 Saint Joseph's University graduate, teamed with Meghan Sabanis, to win the senior lightweight doubles event at the U.S. Rowing National Championships held on the Cooper River on Saturday. The two Philadelphia area rowers also teamed up to win the elite lightweight women's pair event on Friday. The victories qualified Hykel and Sabanis, a 1999 Villanova University graduate, to compete at the World Championships to be held in Milan, Italy from August 24-26. Hykel, a four-year standoout with the SJU rowing team, are members of Philadelphia's Undine Barge Club. Before travelling to Milan, Hykel and Sabanis will first compete at the Pan American games to be held in the Dominican Republic from August 1-18.
