PHILADELPHIA (4/15/04) -- Saint Joseph's dropped just 13 singles games and in blanking visiting Monmouth, 7-0, on Finnesey Courts on Thursday. The Hawks improve to 10-9 on the season as they strive for their first back-to-back winning seasons since 1984.
Junior Francisco Velazquez had the most trouble of any singles players with his 6-3, 6-3 straight set victory at #1. Sophomore Chris Spencer won 6-0, 6-1 at #2, followed by classmate A.J. Garabedian (6-1, 6-1) at #3.
Junior Van Homer Pangilinan won 6-1, 6-1 at #4 and sophomore Jeff Olson won 6-0, 6-1 at #5. Senior Mike Goldschmidt was a 6-0, 6-1 victor at #6 to wrap up the singles compeition.
In doubles, sophomore Jimmy Holland teamed with Garabedian at #1 for a 8-0 win. Velazquez/Pangilinan won 8-2 at #2 and sophomore Antonio Aniello and senior Bob Cappelli combined for a 8-0 victory at #3.
