JAMEER NELSON NAMED ATLANTIC 10 AND COLLEGEINSIDER.COM CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

PHILADELPHIA (11/24/02) - Saint Joseph's University junior guard Jameer Nelson was named Atlantic 10 Conference and CollegeInsider.com co-Player of the Week for the week ending November 23. Nelson shared the A-10 honor with St. Bonaventure guard Marques Green, who helped lead the Bonnies to wins over Virginia Tech and Michigan. The CollegeInsider.com award was shared with Louisiana-Lafayette's Brad Boyd. Nelson tallied 22 points and dished eight assists in leading the Hawks to a impressive 85-58 win at Boston College on Saturday night in the team's season opener. The Hawk co-captain also pulled down five rebounds and had two steals while committing just one turnover in the contest. He also was part of a strong SJU perimeter defense that limited the Eagles to just one three-pointer and held Wooden Award nominee Troy Bell to 2-of-14 from the field. Nelson also passed Bruiser Flint on the all-time SJU assist list. He is now in sixth place with 409 assists. The A-10 honor is Nelson's second of his career.
