SWARTHMORE, PA (09/07/03) -- Saint Joseph's junior Van Homer Pangilinan was the big winner as the Hawks took three flight championships at the annual Swarthmore Fall Invitational. Panglinan won both the Flight A singles and doubles championships over the weekend. The Somers Point, N.J. native defeated Swarthmore's Zach Rodd in the Flight A finals 6-1, 6-2 to earn the nod as the tourney's best player. In doubles, he teamed with junior Francisco Velazquez to win the Flight A doubles with a 9-8 (4) victory over Swarthmore's Devin Visciano and Brian Park. In Flight B singles action, sophomore Chris Spencer upended classmate and teammate A.J. Garabedian in the finals, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Velazquez, normally the Hawks #1 singles player, continued his return from a summer injury to finish second in the Flight C singles. He lost 7-5, 7-5 to Swarthmore's Jonathan Reiss. Spencer joined sophomore newcomer Ravi Pujara in the Flight B doubles finals, but the duo fell to Swarthmore's Ben Rae and Mike Noreika.
