PHILADELPHIA (03/15/03) - Saint Joseph's will celebrate Selection Sunday with a party on the floor of Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon. The gala will commence at 4:30 p.m. for Hawk fans where first it will be the women's basketball team that will gather to watch the selection show to the NCAA Women's Basketball Championships at 5 p.m. on ESPN. The Hawk men's team will then take center stage to watch the NCAA Men's Basketball Championships at 6 p.m. on CBS. The Hawk women, A-10 East Division Champions with a 13-3 league mark, are hopeful for a bid with an 18-10 overall mark. Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Cindy Griffin's team is projected as a #9-seed by ESPN.com this week in the Midwest Region. After an upset loss in the A-10 Quarterfinals to host and East Division #5 seed Rhode Island, the Hawks will be anxious on Sunday. SJU's men's team, ranked #25 in the latest Associated Press poll, finished with a 23-6 record, losing 76-73 to #22 Dayton in the A-10 Semifinals. Head coach Phil Martelli, named USBWA District I Coach of the Year, will be looking to take his third team to the NCAA Tournament in his eight years at the helm. Admission is free to Hawk fans on Sunday.
