OWN GOAL DOOMS HAWKS IN 2-1 LOSS TO LA SALLE

PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/04/02) - An own goal in the 88th minute doomed Saint Joseph's, as La Salle rallied back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Hawks at Finnesey Field, 2-1, in an Atlantic 10 matchup Friday afternoon. La Salle (5-3-1, 2-0-0) dominated play in the first half, outshooting the Hawks 9-3 and forcing senior keeper Christy Ganc to make several tough saves to keep the game scoreless. SJU (4-4-0) was missing two of their prime offensive threats in the first half in senior captain Kim Miller (out for at least another week with a fractured fibula) and freshman Michelle Carmosky, who missed most of the first half with a shin injury. Carmosky returned in the second half for the Hawks and the team's leading scorer did not disappoint. She scored her fourth goal of the season on a nifty give-and-go with junior Katie Watson in the 50th minute to put the Crimson and Grey up 1-0. Despite several opportunities, the Explorers remained scoreless until the 75th minute when an Amy Schneider shot was deflected to the boot of Lisa Genna who easily chipped it in to tie the game at one. A frantic last 15-minutes concluded with the SJU own goal in the 88th minute. Ganc made eight saves in the loss, while Marisa Suarez needed to stop just three in the second stanza. LSU outshot the host Hawks, 16-6, and held a 4-1 advantage on corners. Saint Joseph's returns to action on Sunday when they host A-10 rival Fordham at noon.
