WEST'S PERFECT GAME EARNS HONORS FROM THE SPORTING NEWS, ATLANTIC 10 AND BIG 5

PHILADELPHIA (1/18/04) - By virtue of his perfect game at Xavier, Saint Joseph's Delonte West has been named National Player of the Week by The Sporting News as well as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week and the Big 5 Player of the Week for January 18. It marks the second time this season that West has earned the A10 honor. West helped the sixth-ranked Hawks remain unbeaten (15-0) in one of their biggest tests of the season, at the sold-out Cintas Center in Cinncinati. The junior made all 12 of his shots from the field, while going 3-for-3 from three-point range and 6-for-6 from the foul line for a career-high 33 points in the 81-73 win. West also added six rebounds and five assists. West tied the Saint Joseph's school record set by Bryan Warrick vs. UNC-Charlotte on Jan. 16, 1982 and set a new Atlantic 10 record, breaking the mark of 11-for-11 set by URI's Kenny Green on Jan. 18, 1988 vs. George Washington. Including a win over Fordham earlier in the week, West averaged 22.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in the two games. His shooting totals were 17-for-20 (85%) from the field, 3-for-4 (75%) from 3 and 8-for-8 from the foul line. West and Jameer Nelson showed the nation why they should be considered the best backcourt in the country. With Nelson hitting 11-of-18 shots, the duo combined to make 23 of the Hawks' 30 field goals. By combining for seven assists, the pair had a hand in every Saint Joseph's field goal of the game. West is now averaging 17.6 points per game for the Hawks, who host Massachusetts on Wednesday, January 21 at the sold-out Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Game time is 7 p.m.
