Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Junior midfielder Kimmy Leigh's goal was the difference for the Hawks Sunday, as Saint Joseph's women's soccer team downed La Salle 2-1 at Finnesey Field.

The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the contest as junior forward Nancy Cook scored in the 10th minute. Cook, standing near the left corner of the box, took a pass from classmate Kaiti McCaffery and blasted it into the right netting at 9:59.

Leading by one, Leigh added to Saint Joseph's lead in the 32nd minute. Off a scrum in the upper portion of the box, Leigh took a pass from classmate Ali Wean and put it to the back of the net at 31:12.

The score remained the same late into the contest as play was contained to midfield for the most part.

The Explorers cut the deficit to one, 2-1 at 83:01 as Lisa Genna redirected a crossing pass from Krisitn Hextall into the back of the net.

From there, La Salle continued to press, but Saint Joseph's held off the pressure to earn the victory.

For the game, the Explorers out shot the Hawks 11-10 with both teams registering two on net.

Between the pipes, senior goalkeeper Nicole DiEnna (Levittown, PA/Villa Joseph Marie) made three saves to earn the victory for Saint Joseph's. Lauren Malizia made two saves in the loss for La Salle.

With the victory, the Hawks improve to 7-7-2 overall and 3-2-1 in Atlantic 10 play. The Explorers fall to 4-9-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.
