Oct. 21, 2005

Box Score

AMBLER, PA - Despite out shooting Temple 28-13, the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team earned only a 2-2 double-overtime tie at the Owls Ambler, PA field Friday afternoon.

The Hawks were the only team to tally a goal in the first stanza as senior forward Alisha Paine recorded her team-leading eighth goal of the season off a corner kick at 10:41. Saint Joseph's held a 10-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but headed into the lockerroom up only one.

Temple tied the game at one early in the second half as the Owls' Charisma Wright slipped past Saint Joseph's defense at the midfield mark and beat the Hawks' senior goalkeeper Nicole DiEnna at 52:06.

Saint Joseph's would regain the lead in the 70th minute as junior Kaiti McCaffery took a crossing pass from Paine and beat the Owls' Tiffany Kasunich at 72:18.

The Hawks' lead was short lived as Temple knotted the score at two, three minutes later. The Owls' Darlene Beamon took a centering pass from teammate Kate Lamplugh inside Saint Joseph's box and kicked it home at 72:18.

The score remained tied at two apiece at the end of regulation, forcing sudden-death overtime. Again Saint Joseph's offense was aggressive, out shooting Temple 7-3, but couldn't slip one into the netting as the game ended in a draw.

For the Hawks, DiEnna finished with four saves as SJU collected seven corner kicks to the Owls' none.

On the opposite side, Kasunich was solid for Temple, making 13 saves.

With the tie, the Hawks move to 7-7-3 overall and 3-2-2 in Atlantic 10 play. The Owls move to 2-13-1 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next Friday, October 28, at Fordham. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
