Sophomore Shannon Osborn's goal midway through the second half helped Saint Joseph's (5-6-2) rally from a halftime deficit, but Duquesne (8-2-1) scored in the 87th minute to earn a 2-1 victory over Saint Joseph's in women's soccer action on Finnesey Field.
Duquesne took an early lead in the contest. Jumping on top with a goal by freshman Shannon Rengers in the 20th minute after rocketing home a shot from the left side of the goal. Senior Erika Carey collected the assist for the Dukes.
Play remained even for nearly 50 minutes until Saint Joseph's equalized on a goal by Osborn. Substitute Kristie Hoban gathered the ball on the left side of the box and rolled a pass to Osborn who buried it to knot the contest at 1-1 in the 71st minute.
Miscommunication in the penalty box led to the final Duquesne goal as freshman Michelle Esposito knocked home a ball that was touched over by sophomore Audra Matthews.
Play was fairly even throughout with each team attempting 11 shots and both goalkeepers registering three saves. SJU held a 5-2 edge on corner kicks.
The Hawks return to the field on Sunday at noon versus Saint Louis.
